We began producing our “Silver Shield” line of smooth wall grain bins following the end of World War II. Since that time, our grain bins, silos, and hopper tanks have earned a reputation for being the highest quality and longest lasting on the market. When you choose a new Clayton & Lambert Silver Shield bin, you can rest assured that we are with you for the long haul. In fact, we still offer parts and support for nearly all of the smooth wall bins we have ever produced. That’s a level of service you’re not likely to find with any other bin manufacturer.
Why choose a C&L Silver Shield hopper bin?
- 123 size options from 234 bushels up to 20,000 bushels with our standard 45º hopper bottom.
- Optional 60º hopper bottom is available.
- Silver Shield hopper bottom bins, featuring same roof structure and external flange/smooth wall construction as our flat bottom bins, can also “grow” with your operation.
- Hopper is constructed of bolt-together galvanized sheets for great resistance to corrosion.
- Stainless steel roofs, walls, and hoppers are available for more corrosive applications.
- Upper flange of hopper sheets is “sandwiched” between wall sheets and support channel, creating a smooth transition from sidewall to hopper with no “ledge” for grain to accumulate on.
- Hopper opening can be sized according to your unloading requirements.
- Standard hopper bottom bins can be ordered with or without C&L leg structure, depending on your specific needs.
- Skirted hopper bins with standard three-ring walk-in door are available up to 19′ diameter.

Why choose a C&L Silver Shield grain bin?
- With 197 Standard size options from 576 bushels, up to 175,500 bushels, we can help you meet your specific storage requirements.
- Our galvanized steel wall panels utilize external bolted flanges and spot welded reinforcing bars, leaving the inside of the bin wall smooth. With this, bolting through the bin wall is held to an absolute minimum.
- For more corrosive applications, roofs, walls, and even aeration floors can be manufactured from stainless steel.
- Silver Shield grain bins are built from the roof-down, allowing nearly all construction to occur at the ground level. New rings are added to the bottom as the bin is jacked up.
- Should you prefer construction with a crane, many Silver Shield bins can be built in sections on the ground, prior setting them in place with a crane. Consult C&L for crane lifting instructions.
- As with construction, our ring gauge schedules are spec’d from the roof-down, allowing your Silver Shield bins to “grow” with your operation. By sizing your bin foundations for future growth, a bin originally built to the minimum standard wall height can later be built up to the maximum available wall height by simply adding rings to the bottom. (Consult Clayton & Lambert for specific ring gauge schedules and minimum foundation recommendations)
- Unlike other bin manufacturers who use “anchor brackets” to secure their bin to its the foundation, all Silver Shield flat-bottom bins utilize a C&L designed full perimeter “footer channel”, which is set into the foundation of the bin when the concrete is poured. This means a better sealed base ring and a truly “anchored” bin.
